The Mayor's 'vison' for transport in Bedford has still not been published, two weeks after its announcement in the local press

Two weeks on from hailing a new 'vision' for public transport in Bedford Borough in the local press, the Mayor has not shared his ideas with the public or with local councillors. The Liberal Democrats have criticised the Mayor for seeking headlines first and solutions later, while the problems of congestion and inadequate local public transport continue.

Commenting on the issue, Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Deputy Group Leader and Harrold Ward Cllr Nick Charsley said: "The Mayor has hailed a new era for public transport in the Borough on the front page of the Times and Citizen, but has not consulted or even informed the public or locally-elected councillors about his plans. In fact, two weeks on they have still not been published for anyone to see.'

"The Liberal Democrats have long called for radical improvements to local public transport. Residents have been crying out for them for years. We need a comprehensive approach to improving all aspects of local transport and to getting Bedford Borough moving. What we do not need are headline-chasing announcements from the Mayor about bright ideas which are not part of an overall plan to cut congestion and boost public transport."
