Setting up of Brickhill Parish Council led to reduction of Borough council tax for Brickhill

Brickhill has a Parish Council, created in 2004. In the initial elections in June 2004, 9 Liberal Democrats were elected, plus 4 Tories. The budget for the first year of the Parish Council's existence was proposed by the Conservative borough councillors. In 2005 and 2006 the Parish sets its own budget.

Brickhill Parish council will be working for local residents this year to tackle crime and fear of crime in Brickhill, seeking to improve the provision of services for young people in Brickhill, and taking responsibility for the Brickhill allotments amongst many other matters. Our success depends on the efforts of local people. Every FOCUS is delivered by a dedicated team of over 50 volunteers. Over the past 33 years several hundred people have been involved in bringing you your FOCUS. We dedicate the 33rd anniversary to all those deliverers, without whom our Brickhill success story would not have been possible.

A big 'Thank You' to everyone who supported the Liberal Democrat FOCUS Team in the elections on May 3rd 2007. Here in Brickhill Charles Royden was elected to serve you. Charles says "Please do not hesitate to get in touch if I can be of any help. Now the election is over, the real work continues of getting things done for local residents."

Christine McHugh thanks everyone for their support in the Mayoral campaign. Whilst not being successful this time, Christine increased her vote share by 6.7% and had a higher number of 1st choice votes than Frank Branston had when elected in 2002.

Within Bedford and Kempston Parliamentary boundaries, Liberal Democrats had their best result ever, topping the poll in votes and seats ahead of Labour and the Tories. Six Lib Dem councillors were elected, three Labour, one Independent and no Conservatives.
