‘A’ LEVEL RESULTS: HOW DID THE BOROUGH DO?

Results are in and schools across the borough are celebrating, following the release of provisional 'A' Level results today. Notable successes include:

Biddenham Upper School

• 75% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades

Hastingsbury Business & Enterprise College

• 89% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades

Students at Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College gained the best ever set of 'A' Level results the college has ever had with results showing a significant improvement on last year. Performances of particular note were Matthew Harris - A* A B C / Rebecca Harris - A A B B / Rajalakshmi Valaiyapathi - A A A A.

Martin Fletcher, Head teacher at Hastingsbury Business & Enterprise College said: "We wish all our students every success for the future."

Mark Rutherford Upper School

• 78% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades

Mark Rutherford continues to build on improvements made last year with overall performance at "A" level up again this year, with most students achieving the results they needed to take up their university places.

Most notable achievements were: Martin Leggett 2A* and 1A, Elliott Cain 1A* and 3As, Rebecca Colmer 1A* and 3As, Karim Habbas 1A* and 2As, Alix Martin 2A*s and 2Bs, Cameron Stuart 1A*, 2As and 2Bs.

Steve Peacey, Principal, at Mark Rutherford Upper School, said: "Congratulations to Martin Leggett who has secured his place at Oxford University to read Politics, his peers have already tipped him to be a Prime Minister of the future - look out David Cameron et al! Congratulations to everyone and we wish each student every success in the future."

Sharnbrook Upper School

• 89% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades

St. Thomas More

• 83% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades

Wootton Upper School

• 78% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades

Cllr David Sawyer, portfolio holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: "Thanks to the hard work of staff and students in the Borough's schools, A Level results across the Borough are even better than last year. The Borough Council has an ongoing commitment to working in partnership with its schools to increase attainment, and it is very pleasing to see standards continuing to rise."
