NEW SCHOOL LIBRARY… FOR TOTS TO TEENS

Thurleigh Lower School welcomed children's author, Julia Jarman, to the launch of their brand new Children's Library, on Friday 14th October.

Pupils enjoyed a celebratory balloon race as Julia officially opened the doors to the new 0-16 yrs library facility, in the company of Executive Director of Children's Services, Schools and Families,Chris Hilliard, and Cllr Jane Walker.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: "It is pleasing to see school libraries flourish within the borough. This resource provides the ideal opportunity for young people to develop their reading skills and enjoy doing so at the same time. The new facility can also be shared with other schools within the local community to maximise its benefit."

Verity Kenyon, Head teacher at Thurleigh Lower School, said: "I hope that the library will be a well used resource, Julia really inspired the children with her passion for books on the day. The children were left eager to read the abundance of material displayed on the library's shelves. We actively encourage local middle school and upper school students to pop in and do their homework in a safe and warm environment."

A wide range of books are stocked with titles suitable for tots to teens, so all ages of children are welcome.
