There will be 420 trees planted at Balliol Lower School, in Kempston, on Saturday 26th November, from 10am - 2pm and the Portfolio Holder for Education, Cllr David Sawyer, will be on-hand along with locals to help to plant them. The Woodland Trust have donated the trees to the school, who are hosting this Community Tree Planting event to celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, improve their local area and help double native woodland cover.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: "Children from Year 4 at Balliol Lower School have worked very hard to help in the planning and preparation of this project. Dedicated staff at the school have informed the pupils of the importance of tree planting. These trees will help attract wildlife and I hope many people will enjoy them for years to come."

The tree packs provided are part of the Trust's Jubilee Woods project, which aims to plant 6 million trees by the end of 2012.

Victoria Hodson from the Woodland Trust, added: "We are delighted Balliol Lower School are using our free tree scheme to plant more trees in Kempston. Communities are transforming their neighbourhoods, growing their own fruits and food, creating shade and shelter, and providing new homes for wildlife. Next year, we are offering more free trees as part of our Jubilee Woods Project to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, and would love more communities to get involved."

Everyone is welcome to attend and make this a community project.

If you would like to plant a tree withBalliolLowerSchooland help bring benefits to the local community and wildlife as a result, come prepared - a coat, warm clothes and a pair of boots or wellies are recommended.

Cllr David Sawyerwill attend the event from 11.30am

Tree packs are being provided in partnership with Ibuyeco, an eco insurance provider who have worked with the Woodland Trust for over two years.
