Bedford Borough Council has added 16 new electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet as part of its plans to increase the number of EVs used in operations.

The Council is using these new EVs to replace the least environmentally friendly vehicles in the fleet. This will help to drive down its CO2 emissions and achieve the commitment of Bedford Borough Council's Carbon Reduction Delivery Strategy, which sets out the approach that it will take to become net carbon neutral by 2030.

Alongside EVs, the strategy includes plans to explore opportunities for other alternative fuels, where appropriate replacements are available, in order to help deliver council services in a more sustainable way.

A Bedford Borough Council spokesperson said, "We have committed to ensure our new vehicles make a positive step to reducing our carbon footprint and achieving our ambitious objectives. As part of our efforts to address the climate emergency, we will continue to look at other opportunities to make our own operations more sustainable, while enabling other organisations in the Borough to do the same."
