Clapham's fight to save Post Office intensifies

Local Clapham Councillor Jon Abbott (Lib Dem, Clapham and Oakley) hand delivered a petition to Post Office Limited’s headquarters in London this week (Wednesday 4th June) signed by almost 300 local residents.
The petition opposes Post Office Limited’s proposal to move the Post Office in Clapham from the premises it has occupied for over 100 years to a less suitable location inside a shop.
The new location would also have no parking and no disabled access.
Councillor Abbott’s petition is on the Petitions section of this website. An update will be submitted to the Post Office in the coming weeks.
Councillor Abbott commented,
‘I wanted to ensure that our Clapham petition was safely in the hands of the Post Office bosses – so I decided to travel to London and deliver it myself.
‘This issue has generated an unprecedented level of concern within the community. In my six years as a borough councillor, no other single issue has prompted such a significant and unified response from my constituents. There is overwhelming local opposition and a viable alternative presented by the current owners. Post Office Limited have a choice; I urge them to reconsider their proposal.’
