Conservatives taking £1 million out of roads and pavement renewal budget

On Wednesday night the Conservatives decided to take £1 million out of roads and pavement renewal.

Cllr Henry Vann said, “Astonishingly, this decision comes after last year’s underspend on maintenance, when Bedford Borough was shamed nationally as one of the 13th worst authorities in the country for road and pavement repairs. We all know roads and pavements that are in need of desperate repairs and we want this money to be put back in the budget.”

The Mayor and his cabinet met on 15th July and agreed a proposal to remove £1m from the Highways Maintenance budget that is used to renew roads and pavements.

Agenda for Executive on Wednesday, 15th July, 2026, 6.35 pm - Bedford Borough Council
