COVANTA SHOCK

26 Oct 2011

It was with shock and sadness that we learnt recently of the crass decision of the unelected quango, the IPC, to approve the plans to erect the MASSIVE Incinerator at Rookery Pit. Your local Liberal Democrat Councillors have been fighting long and hard to get these plans stopped along with many local residents and campaigners.

The biggest travesty to this sorry story is that local people had no say in a decision that will have a big impact on local lives. Cllr Paul Prescod took the matter to Full Council after the announcement was made and asked Mayor Dave Hodgson to clarify the Council's position on the Incinerator decision. Mayor Hodgson said, "This appalling, undemocratic decision has sorely let down current and future generations of residents in Wootton."

Cllr Prescod added, "The Government says it wants to devolve decision making down to local people and yet they can't get something as important as this right. "We will continue to see if there are ways to challenge this decision and the fight is not over yet."
