Liberal Democrats welcome the abolition of Police and Crime Commissioner.

Councillor Henry Vann has welcomed the government’s decision to implement a Liberal Democrat manifesto commitment.

The post of Bedfordshire PCC is forecast to cost £1.7m in future: money which is desperately needed for front-line policing.

Councillor Vann, Bedford Borough’s Liberal Democrat mayoral candidate for 2027, said:

‘Local councils can do the job of holding the police to account just as well – let’s stop wasting money and restore democracy.’
