Mayor cancels meeting in midst of Council Crisis

This month’s Executive meeting, due to be held on 18th June, has been cancelled by the Mayor.

This means that there has not been a meeting of the Executive, a committee which the Mayor chairs, since 23rd April.

Councillor Michael Headley, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson, commented:

“There is a financial crisis at the Council that demands urgent action – yet we find the Mayor is asleep at the wheel. It’s a dereliction of duty to cancel the Executive meeting that was due to discuss the vital Council resilience plan to deal with the huge £10m hole in the Mayor’s budget. It’s now going to be July before they put any plans in place, with no Executive meeting taking place since April. If the Mayor wants to talk about productivity, then I think residents will rightly be asking difficult questions of him first.”
