Mayor Dave Hodgson has today announced the location of a further seven average speed cameras across Bedford Borough.

The villages of Bromham, Clapham, Colmworth, Elstow and Willington are set to have average speed cameras installed, alongside Hillgrounds Road in Kempston and Mile Road in Bedford.

Mayor Dave, who is pictured right during a visit to Colmworth Parish Council to discuss the new cameras, made Bedford Borough the first place in the country to install the cameras on local roads back in 2012. He did so because in talking to residents the breadth and depth of concern over speeding traffic in communities right across the Borough was clear, in rural and urban areas alike.

They have been incredibly effective at bringing down speeds where they have been installed, and the new installations all follow requests from local communities and their representatives.

The Council does not make money from the cameras, with all fines retained by Central Government.

Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "Speeding is a common concern for local communities across the Borough, so we are taking action to reduce speeds and make our roads safer. These cameras will join other average speed cameras already in place in our Borough, which have already had a positive impact on road users and local communities. They have brought speeds down, made our roads safer for all and improved the day-to-day experience of those who live in proximity to speeding hotspots."
