Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats celebrate the 2019 Mayoral and Councillor election results

Mayor Dave Hodgson has been re-elected as Mayor of Bedford Borough, for a further four year term. His victory with an increased percentage of the vote was also reflected in an excellent result for The Liberal Democrats, who won seats from Labour and the Conservatives and, with 6 gains, are now the largest party on the council.

Mayor Dave was re-elected with a majority of 3,311 over Gianni Carofano, the Conservative candidate in second place, following the re-allocation of second preference votes under the supplementary voting system.

Mayor Dave had led by 1,818 votes after the first preference votes had all been counted, with the margin of victory increasing on second preferences.

Commenting after the result was announced, Mayor Dave said: "It is an honour to be re-elected as Mayor. Huge, huge thanks to everyone who supported me, and thanks to all of the candidates for a campaign fought in the right spirit.'

"There's a lot more hard work ahead to keep protecting services and standing up for Bedford Borough. I look forward to working alongside all those committed to getting the best for the Borough, across all our communities. Thank you!"
