Mayor Dave Hodgson has offered his congratulations to students after yesterday's A Level results publication revealed an increase in the number of local young people achieving top grades. Based on returns from the 7 upper schools, provisional A Level results show 42% of pupils achieved one or more A* - A grades, an improvement on last year. This improvement stands in contrast to the national pitcture, with the proportion of students across the country achieving a top grade falling slightly.

Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "My congratulations to all the students for their hard work in achieving these results. It is very heartening to see increasing A level attainment across the Borough, not least at a time when the national picture saw a slight decline in students achieving top grades. With the Borough's schools at number one in the eastern region according to Ofsted outcomes, and new investment and support for restructuring to come, these are exciting times in education locally."
