Recycling our Waste!

15 Feb 2013

Recycling is a priority for the Lib Dems and Bedford Borough Council

It is a priority to make use of waste from local residents rather than burning it or sending it to landfill; that is why there are a whole range of facilities in place to help everyone recycle, with the kerbside orange bin recycling collections at the heart of this approach. Lib Dem Mayor Dave Hodgson has also introduced battery recycling from the kerbside as well.

To complement these collections around the Borough there are aslo recycling banks for glass, as well as other materials.

New Contract- Less Wasted Waste

The Council has signed with a new contractor to deal without waste after is has been collected. This will mean that even black bin rubbish will be looked at to extract the maximum useable materital out if it- this isn't as good as the separate recycling, but will still help to make sure that nothing that can be made use of it is wasted.

Mayor Dave and his Liberal Democrat colleagues have campaigned against mass burn incineration for years, and Dave has been able to ensure that the Council uses this new contact and not sign up to using the large incinerators being built.
