Bedford Town Bridge Flooding December 2020

Local Liberal Democrats have given their thanks to everyone who was part of the response to the flooding in Bedford Borough over recent days, as the Environment Agency lifted the severe flood warnings in place last night (Saturday, 26 Dec).

Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "A huge thank you must go to all the organisations, groups and volunteers who have been part of the response to this flood. From Council officers, emergency services, local flood groups, the very many volunteer groups who supported the effort and the numerous offers of support we received from the public - thank you to you all. It really does speak to Bedford Borough's incredible community spirit. With flood warnings still in force, please keep being cautious and prepared. Do not drive or walk through floodwaters, and keep yourselves and your families safe."

You can also read thanks and see photos of the floods on Facebook from Newnham Liberal Democrats, Oakley Liberal Democrats, Kingsbrook Liberal Democrats, Goldington Liberal Democrats and Cllr Henry Vann.

Residents are asked to continue to take care and to avoid walking through floodwaters, which contain unknown hazards. Flood alerts and warnings and further advice can be found here: https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings

Bedford Borough Council has also issued advice following the high winds of Storm Bella overnight, asking for any fallen trees or branches obstructing roads in Bedford Borough to be reported to the Highways Helpdesk on (01234) 718003.
