Utility investigations on Oakley twin bridges

Cllr Charles Royden

Bedford Borough Council is carrying out utility investigations ahead of refurbishment works to the Oakley twin bridges. These road bridges travel over the River Great Ouse between the villages of Oakley and Bromham.

The investigations will involve trenching and will require a road closure, as the roads across the river are narrow so there isn't the space to have a lane open while these works are ongoing. To reduce the effect on schools, businesses and residents, the closure will take place during half term from 8am to 6pm on both the 29 and 30 October. The associated diversion route will be signposted.

Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said "We are putting more investment into refurbishing our road network. As the Oakley twin bridges form part of our rich history, their maintenance is important an important part of the heritage of Oakley, Bromham and the wider borough. We apologise for any inconvenience that could be caused by the road closure and there will be a clearly signed diversion route in place."
