Yesterday morning I was out in the early morning sunshine in Renhold to support a joint enforcement operation between the Council and the police. Littering blights our communities across urban and rural Bedford Borough, and costs local taxpayers a vast amount in clean-up...
At the time of the completion of the new, dualled A421 link between Bedford and the Black Cat roundabout (or Great Barford bypass, as it's more commonly known) just a few years ago, the Black Cat junction itself was remodelled to accommodate the new entrance/exit. Sadly, the opportunity to introduce a comprehensive scheme to remedy the problem of severe traffic and congestion at the junction, which is the responsibility of the Highways Agency, was not taken at the time. Commenting on the reports of the re-introduction of O-Levels, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party Committee on Education, Dan Rogerson said:
It was great to see so many people come out on Monday to see the new 'Archimedean Screws' beginning to turn and generate energy from the natural drop between the upper and lower river levels on the River Great Ouse in Bedford. Local schoolchildren were there, learning about renewable energy by watching it brought to life at such close quarters. A large number of residents who have seen the plant being installed over recent weeks were also in attendance, pleased to see it getting underway and starting to use the river's natural power for the benefit of our environment and local taxpayers.
