Please sign Henry Vann’s petition (below) to stop the Mayor introducing a Green Bin Charge for residents.

Henry said, “A charge for green waste is a thinly disguised increase in tax – a stealth tax – for residents. It comes on top of increases in charges for car-parking and record council tax rises. The financial burden for residents from this Conservative administration continues to grow and puts increasing pressure on household budgets that are already squeezed.”

“This flat rate charge is costly for everyone, but will hit those on lowest incomes particularly hard. We will always stand up for residents and especially fight Conservative cuts that fall hardest on those least able to bear them.”

The plan for these charges was agreed by the Mayor and his Conservative dominated council cabinet at their meeting on 15 October.

However, in response to a question from the Liberal Democrats, the Conservative Mayor agreed that if a majority of people are against his proposed charges for green waste collections, then he will not impose them.  If you object to this charge please sign up below and we will submit it as part of the Council’s consultation.

We need to demonstrate the strength of feeling about the impact of this charge and then hold them to this commitment.
