From Friday 22 October, Bedford Borough Council is in its 'winter maintenance period'. This means gritting crews are ready to go out spreading salt on roads to keep traffic moving and safe, as temperatures drop.

Shared Lives is a scheme run by Bedford Borough Council where people open their lives and homes up to support people from the age of 16 with learning disabilities. As a member of the scheme you will be paid to provide support from your own home or the wider community.

Bedford Borough Council will again be providing vouchers to families with children eligible for income related free school meals.
There will be no increase in council car park charges from January 2022 thanks to the decision made by Mayor Dave Hodgson and colleagues. Commenting on this decision Mayor Dave Hodgson said "This is great news for our residents who have already been through so much in the last 18 months, freezing car park charges for the fifth successive year is one way in which the council can provide support."
Works started on the 'Northern Gateway' in June 2021 to ease congestion around the Clapham Road/Manton Lane roundabout, which will also benefit the A6 roundabout.
