henry Councillor Henry Vann, Parliamentary Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats in Bedford and Kempston commenting on the prorogation of parliament said "It is a complete disgrace. This Prime Minister hasn't faced the electorate and his government doesn't have a majority in the House of Commons. They claim to support democracy and want to return sovereignty to Parliament, but their actions show the opposite - they are trying to stop all scrutiny and just want to force a disastrous no-deal Brexit through. What are they scared of?"
Responding to the Government asking the Queen to suspend Parliament from mid-September, Liberal Democrat Leader Jo Swinson said "Shutting down Parliament is an act of cowardice from Boris Johnson. He knows the people would not choose a No Deal and that elected representatives wouldn't allow it. He is trying to stifle their voices. By suspending Parliament to force through a No Deal, Boris Johnson and the Government would remove the voice of the people at the most important time. It is a dangerous and unacceptable course of action which the Liberal Democrats will strongly oppose."
