Responding to the news that the Conservative Government is scrapping its pledge to abolish Class 2 National Insurance, hitting millions of workers by £150, Liberal Democrats Health Spokesperson Judith Jolly said "The Chancellor is wrong to go after the cash strapped self-employed. It is a desperate attempt to pinch pennies for the NHS. Instead, the Government needs a long-term funding plan. The Liberal Democrats are the only party with a serious plan for the NHS. We would raise money immediately by putting a penny in the pound on income tax, and guarantee its long-term funding through a new dedicated health and care tax."
Commenting on the Ofgem's proposed price cap, former Liberal Democrat Secretary of State for Energy Ed Davey said "As predicted the proposed price cap is underwhelming. People who have never switched will save just £75 a year, a far cry from the £300 they could save by switching to a new provider. We need to make sure that this price cap doesn't lull people into a false sense of security - Ofgem capping prices doesn't mean they're capped at a good rate."
