East Midlands Rail Franchise Invitation To Tender

A summary of the government's specification for the next East Midlands rail franchise, published yesterday: Bedford is almost entirely removed from from the intercity rail network. We'll be a stop on a Corby to London 'commuter-style' service instead, with the exception of a couple of trains in the morning northbound and 3 in the evening southbound.

Government failing first time home-buyers

Responding to reports that the proportion of parents lending money to their children for housing deposits has risen to 27%, Liberal Democrat Housing campaigner Dean Crofts, said "A broken housing market that routinely relies on parents lending cash to young home-buyers flies in the face of fairness."

Mayor Dave meets with Govia Thameslink

Liberal Democrat Mayor Dave Hodgson met with Govia Thameslink this morning and made clear the extent of the impact of the utter failure of the new timetables on Bedford Borough residents. Dave reminded them that Bedford rail users have been hit doubly hard by the daily chaos currently taking place, because these failing services are those we have left *after* the government has taken away peak-time fast intercity trains.
