Following Mayor Dave Hodgson's success last year in breaking down a series of barriers blocking progress to the construction of the final section of the Western bypass, new aerial photos have revealed the extent of the rapid progress of the project.

When the facility, which uses 'Archimedes Screw' trechnology to generate renewable energy from the fall between the upper and lower river, was opened in 2012, the estimated income generation was £32,000. However, between 01/01/14 and 31/12/14 the Hydro Power facility generated £33,400.

In good news for Stewartby residents, a significant change has been announced for the planned power station at Rookery South Pit. Instead of building six new 45m pylons, Millbrook Power have decided to install an underground cable feed- hugely reducing the visual impact of the whole project.
The latest impressive aerial photographs taken of the second phase of the Western Bypass show excellent progress is being made on this important infrastructure project for the Borough. Construction began in October 2014 and, when open in 2016, the new road will provide a vital connection between the A421 in the south of Bedford through to the A6 heading north of the town.
