Call for Council to Drop its Proposals for Development of Greenfield sites

With a draft plan of sites for future developments in Bedford Borough now overdue, Liberal Democrat Mayoral Candidate Dave Hodgson has pledged to block Council proposals to sell off greenfield land for development as part of the proposals. As part of the process of making its final policies on where development will be permitted, Bedford Borough Council last year proposed large housing and commercial developments at a range of sites including Bedford Athletic Rugby Ground, Mile Road Allotments in Cauldwell and Berry Wood in Wootton.

The Bedford De Parys Rotary Club organised a charity cycle ride to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society and RYA Sailability. The weather was kind and there was a good turn out.

Government Seeks to Impose Massive, 'Pie-in-the-Sky' Housing Growth on Bedford Borough

A report discussed at a public meeting in Bedford on Tuesday night reveals that the Government is proposing a further huge expansion of house building in the region, just weeks after it cut previously agreed funding intended to help Bedford and the Marston Vale cope with existing growth. The report published by the East of England Regional Assembly rejects the Government's proposal for targets of up to almost double current house building rates, stating that it would rely on large scale migration and jobs growth far beyond even the most optimistic projections.
