Lib Dems Vow to Fight on as Borough Council Backs Incinerator Plans

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have slammed last night's decision of Bedford Borough Council to proceed with the project to build a giant incinerator near Stewartby. The plans will now be submitted to the Government with the support of Bedford Borough Council. The decision was made in spite of forceful opposition from the Liberal Democrats on the Council's Implementation Executive, who set out the key reasons why they believe the project must not go ahead.

Air Quality Problem to be Tackled Across Bedford Town Centre

Bedford Town Centre is to be declared an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) following the success of a Liberal Democrat proposal at last night's meeting of the General Purposes Committee of Bedford Borough Council. The decision commits the council to take action to improve air quality across the town centre area.

Stewartby Incinerator Plans - Have Your Say

The Liberal Democrats want to know your views on plans to build a waste incinerator near Stewartby. The project has been driven to date by the Tory-run Bedfordshire County Council. With the County Council being abolished on 1 April 2009 it is down to Bedford Borough, Central Beds and Luton Councils to decide whether to progress with the plans.

Lives placed at risk by failure to maintain street lights

Dozens of street lamps are broken across Brickhill streets and Liberal Democrat Parish Councillor Wendy Rider has called for urgent action to be taken to have them fixed. Cllr Rider reported over 50 failed street lights in Brickhill over a week ago and is furious that action has still not been taken to mend lights at dangerous locations.
