In a report to an overview and scrutiny committee, Mayor Dave Hodgson has set out how the Council has been attracting new businesses and jobs to Bedford Town Centre and the wider Borough. The plans outline the steps that have and will be taken to ensure the Town Centre is a vibrant place to live, work, shop, learn and explore. These steps include small business rate relief, a £22.6 million Bedford Town Deal Fund and increasing Town Centre footfall through better transport links, attractive improvements and cultural events.
Bedford Borough Council continues its crackdown on fly-tippers. A fly-tipper has been fined this month for illegally dumping a painting next to a clothes and shoe collection point. The person responsible was identified by the Council's Environmental Crime Team using footage from the site in Great Denham.
Following Bedford Borough Council's Children's Services being rated 'Good' by Ofsted earlier this year, the Council has released a report outlining the steps it is taking to improve even further. The report shows that all of these steps are either on track for completion or have already been completed this year.
Works under the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) in Bedford continue with exciting progress being made on 58a-c High Street, which includes Sundaes Gelato.
24 new electric vehicles (EVs) will become part of Bedford Borough Council's fleet by the end of the financial year. This will mean that 12.5% of the Council's fleet will be electric - almost three times the national average among all local authorities (4.2%). This will lead to greater reductions to the Council's carbon emissions, as fleet transport and business travel make up 34% of the Council's carbon emissions.
