Elderly people in Bedfordshire and their families will be annoyed to learn this week that they are effectively being treated like third class citizens when it comes to paying for care.

Liberal Democrats on Bedford Borough Council Environment Policy Review and Development committee last week successfully proposed a motion calling for the County Council to release it's road repair backlog list.
Plans to see money held in council reserves released were squashed yesterday by members of the Conservative and Labour groups, who failed to support Lib Dem plans to release funding and failed to table any proposals themselves. However following the Lib Dem proposal all groups have now agreed to look in more detail at how the council can release any reserves.
