In a short statement for the Times and Citizen on why he is standing for re-election as Mayor, Mayor Dave Hodgson has explained how he has worked successfully to turn long-talked about key projects for Bedford Borough into a reality, while keeping council tax down and saving services being lost elsewhere. Here's his full statement:
The pioneering Hydro Power facility at the Boatslide Weir Bridge on the River Great Ouse in Bedford has exceeded income generation expectations for 2014. When the facility, which uses 'Archimedes Screw' trechnology to generate renewable energy from the fall between the upper and lower river, was opened in 2012, the estimated income generation was £32,000. However, between 01/01/14 and 31/12/14 the Hydro Power facility generated £33,400.

Mayor Dave Hodgson has given an emphatic welcome to today's Government announcement of a major project to link the dualled A421 east of Bedford to the dual carriageway section of the A428 west of Cambridge, creating a continuous dualled link and, crucially, achieving the all-important 'Grade Separation' of the Black Cat Roundabout.
