Legal challenge one of many ways to stop Parliament shutdown

Responding to the decision at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to temporarily reject calls to block the Government's decision to suspend parliament, Leader of the Liberal Democrats Jo Swinson said "This legal challenge is one of many ways in which an anti-democratic Parliament shutdown could be stopped. Although the judge has refused a temporary halt to the Prime Minister's plans, I welcome the news that the full hearing has been brought forward to Tuesday."

Councillor Henry Vann statement on the prorogation of parliament

henry Councillor Henry Vann, Parliamentary Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats in Bedford and Kempston commenting on the prorogation of parliament said "It is a complete disgrace. This Prime Minister hasn't faced the electorate and his government doesn't have a majority in the House of Commons. They claim to support democracy and want to return sovereignty to Parliament, but their actions show the opposite - they are trying to stop all scrutiny and just want to force a disastrous no-deal Brexit through. What are they scared of?"

PM is trying to remove the voice of the people

Responding to the Government asking the Queen to suspend Parliament from mid-September, Liberal Democrat Leader Jo Swinson said "Shutting down Parliament is an act of cowardice from Boris Johnson. He knows the people would not choose a No Deal and that elected representatives wouldn't allow it. He is trying to stifle their voices. By suspending Parliament to force through a No Deal, Boris Johnson and the Government would remove the voice of the people at the most important time. It is a dangerous and unacceptable course of action which the Liberal Democrats will strongly oppose."

Legislative route best way to stop no-deal Brexit

Speaking after this Monday's meeting of opposition leaders to discuss stopping a no-deal Brexit, Leader of the Liberal Democrats Jo Swinson said "This was a positive meeting with a clear objective to stop the nightmare that is no-deal Brexit, which the Government have admitted will lead to medicine and food shortages. I am pleased the meeting focused on a legislative route which we have agreed is the best way forward and are now looking at all the scenarios to deliver this. There will be further meetings over the next few days across all groups in Parliament."
