Bedford pensioners could be missing out on over £2,700 extra each year

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are asking pensioners to check whether they are eligible for Pension Credit so that they don't miss out on around £2,700 extra per year plus access to further passported benefits. If eligible, applying before 24th August will also provide residents with extra cost of living payments of £650 and £300. Latest figures estimate that 123 Bedford Borough residents are not claiming Pension Credit that they are eligible for.

Elstow Solar Farm goes live and begins saving over 900 tonnes of carbon emissions

Bedford Borough Council's brand-new solar farm has been fully energised and is now exporting low-carbon electricity to the grid. The project is made up of over 8,000 solar panels, is capable of generating up to 4.2MW of electricity and is enough to power approximately 1,000 homes.

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have called on the Government to spare families from soaring energy bills by cancelling October's price cap increase, accusing the Conservatives of "stalling in the face of a national emergency".

Bedford Borough Council has issued a warning to residents and visitors over growing concerns about blue-green algae blooms that are appearing on areas of the lakes at Priory Country Park and some of the Borough's watercourses.

Council continues to protect services despite government cuts

Mayor Dave Hodgson has reassured residents that vital frontline services will continue to be protected despite years of government grant cuts and with the country facing a cost of living crisis. Unlike many other councils who have had to stop some of their services, Mayor Dave has ensured that bins have been regularly collected, no libraries have closed and no Children's Centres shut down.
