Scrutiny committee praise update to Adult Social Charging Policy

Earlier this year, Mayor Dave Hodgson's Executive put forward changes to the Adult Social Care Charging Policy to ensure residents receiving Universal Credit support are treated fairly. This week the Adult's Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee agreed to the new revisions, which also include an allowance given to residents for broadband costs relating to their adult social care.

Council tackles rough sleeping

The latest figures show that the number of people sleeping rough across Bedford Borough has decreased rapidly with only two residents recorded to be sleeping rough in the borough in 2021. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic Bedford Borough Council has deployed an 'Everyone In' approach to tackling homelessness and rough sleeping, whilst investing in purchasing more temporary accommodation and providing help and support for some of the most vulnerable residents in Bedford Borough.

Mayor Dave Hodgson calls on BBC to stop Look East merger

At this week's meeting of Full Council, Mayor Dave Hodgson announced that he has signed a letter calling on the BBC to reverse their decision to merge the two branches of Look East. This comes after the BBC announced plans to end the Cambridge-based version on the regional news programme. This would move one of Bedford Borough residents' major sources of local news 100 miles away to Norwich.
