Over 4,000 local households have been supported with the Household Support Fund (HSF) in the last week with Bedford Borough Council making over £345,195 of payments to residents. The grants, which are funded by the Department for Work and Pensions but administered by the Council, provide support to some of the UK's most vulnerable households with rising household costs over the winter.
Over the last few months, Mayor Dave Hodgson has announced a number of schemes and grants aimed at supporting Bedford Borough residents through the cost of living crisis. Some of the actions taken include helping to create a network of Warm Spaces, providing grants to a number of charities and organisations, as well as continuing to offer 100% Council Tax support to the most vulnerable residents. The key schemes are outlined below:
A fly-tipper has been fined for illegally dumping bags of rubbish and a rolled-up cushion from their car in Ampthill Road, Bedford in December.
Bedford Borough Council has announced a grant of £45,000 to Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity to deliver support to residents over the winter.
Work is expected to start imminently on the gateway Midland Road scheme, one part of the £22.6m Bedford Town Deal secured in June 2021.
