HGV Ban - Legal Advice Highlights Tory County Council Failure

Legal advice has vindicated a Liberal Democrat decision to halt the implementation of a weight restriction which banned HGV's in some North Bedfordshire Villages, after it was revealed that the former Tory County Council failed to meet a string of lawful procedures for the implementation of the scheme.They did not meet requirements for signs to be in place by the time any such Order comes into force, and also failed to follow requirements that letters be sent to all those who objected to the scheme. Apparently funds were not even in place for the scheme until months after the Order was made.

In his speech to the 2009 Liberal Democrat Conference yesterday, Nick Clegg called for real change in Britain, and set out why the Liberal Democrats are the only party who can achieve it. Clegg, who will be in Bedford on 6th October for a public meeting chaired by Mayoral Candidate Dave Hodgson, encouraged people who share the Lib Dems' belief that real change is needed to 'go with their instincts' and vote Liberal Democrat.

Precarious business this! I was out today in Brickhill helping to put up the signs warning that the area is protected by SmartWater. SmartWater is usually described as water with its own DNA.

Cotton End Village Show

There was lots to enjoy at Cotton End Village Show this afternoon: the Toddington Town Band entertained, there were classic cars, archery, football, a dog show, best-dressed scarecrow competition and a fiendishly difficult game involving marbles. There were also stands from the many village groups.
