Mayor Dave Hodgson has welcomed the latest unemployment figures which show the jobless rate in Bedford Borough has fallen by a massive 32% since February last year. Figures published by the Office of National Statistics show that the proportion of people of working age claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in May fell to 2.9%, the lowest level since 2008 and down from over 4% one year ago, in May 2013.
Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Tim Hill has been campaigning for several years against the "boy racers" and "speed merchants" who have treated Stewartby as a race track, especially during the summer months.
Following on from Bedford Borough's successful inclusion in the Government's 'Rural Broadband Programme' to roll out Superfast to 90% of premises and at least basic broadband to all, Mayor Dave Hodgson has confirmed the Council's commitment to provide the £1 million required to ensure the Borough benefits in full from the Superfast Extension Programme to expand superfast access to at least 95% of properties by 2017.
Following a period of continued pothole repairs, Cllr Sarah Holland is pleased to report that Greycote has now been resurfaced. The road was closed for approximately 11 days in April, during which time it was resurfaced- hopefully bringing an end to the problems for local residents.
Nearly £1million in match funding is expected to be made available by Bedford Borough Council, to help superfast broadband reach thousands more homes and businesses.
